How to dress sustainably and still look good

Sustainable fashion doesn’t start with buying new clothes, but with how you choose them and how you look after what you have. Read four tips on dressing in a way that’s kinder to nature, and find out where TallGuys clothing is made and what from.

In short

Buy less but better, check the material as well as where and how your clothes are made, and take good care of them. We make TallGuys T-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants in Czechia from organic cotton with GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificates, and our swimwear in Czechia from recycled polyamide. Chino trousers, chino shorts and leather wallets are made in Portugal, and caps in China. Wash organic cotton T-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants inside out at 30 °C, skip the dryer, and they’ll last you longer.

Sustainability is an ever bigger topic, especially in the fashion industry. Are you asking yourself, “How can I have style and be sustainable at the same time?” Then come and look at a few tips on how to dress in an environmentally friendly way and look good while you’re at it.

Why is it better to buy less but better?

One of the principles of sustainable fashion is to invest in quality pieces that last, and so lean towards “slow fashion”. It’s the opposite of “fast fashion”, where clothing is mass-produced at a low price and doesn’t last long. Go for quality materials and well-made pieces that will last you several years and won’t put unnecessary strain on the environment. You’ll be doing a favour not only to nature but also to your wallet, because you won’t have to keep replacing your wardrobe with new pieces.

That’s why at TallGuys we stick to a permanent range of timeless pieces that are easy to combine. You can buy your favourite pieces again and don’t have to keep hunting for new clothes that don’t fit you.

Which materials to look for in sustainable clothing?

Materials play a key role in sustainable fashion. We make our T-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants from organic cotton, also known as bio cotton, which is grown without pesticides. It has GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification, an international standard for eco-friendly production, and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, which makes it suitable even for very sensitive skin. We use long-staple cotton that keeps its colour and shape and doesn’t pill. You’ll find more in the organic cotton clothing category.

Our elongated swimwear is made from recycled micro polyamide, made mostly from plastic bottles. You’ll find an overview of all the materials we use in the article What materials we use for our clothes and why.

How can you tell clothing is made under fair conditions?

When you support brands that care about the people who make their clothes, you help ensure decent working conditions in the fashion industry. Look at certifications and whether a brand is open about where and how it makes its clothes. For organic cotton, the GOTS certificate guarantees that it is produced under ethical and ecological conditions.

Here’s how it works for us:

What Where it’s made Material
T-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants Czechia organic cotton, GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificates
swimwear Czechia recycled micro polyamide
chino trousers and chino shorts Portugal, designed in Czechia cotton with added elastane, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate
leather wallets Portugal vegetable-tanned leather
caps China, our own design and embroidery from Czechia cotton

Clothing made in Czechia is produced under fair conditions in local workshops and knitting mills, and we know the people who make it personally. Our chino trousers are made by a Portuguese workshop that has specialised in trousers for generations, and our leather wallets come from Portugal, which is known for its quality leatherwork. Our caps are made in China, because we don’t know of any Czech company that makes them. But we design them ourselves and do the embroidery here.

How to care for your clothes so they last longer?

With quality material, you’re already halfway there. But a few rules will help your clothes last even longer. Wash organic cotton T-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants at a maximum of 30 °C and inside out, don’t use bleach or a dryer, and iron at a maximum of 120 °C. But always check the label first, as care differs slightly from one material to another. You’ll find detailed instructions in the article How to care for your clothes so they last a long time.

A sustainable wardrobe doesn’t happen overnight. But every piece you love wearing that lasts you for years is a step in the right direction.

How to be sustainable with TallGuys

Sustainability keeps growing in importance — especially in fashion. Asking yourself, “How can I keep my style and still be sustainable?” Come take a look with TallGuys at a few tips for dressing in a way that’s kinder to the planet — and still looks great.

1. Choose quality over quantity

One cornerstone of sustainable fashion is investing in well-made pieces and leaning into slow fashion — the opposite of fast fashion, where garments are mass-produced cheaply and don’t last. Pick better materials and well-sewn pieces that hold up for years, so you reduce waste and actually save money over time. You won’t need to keep replacing your wardrobe with disposable items.

2. Check the material before you buy

Materials matter. We use premium organic cotton, which has a lower environmental impact than traditional polyester and many synthetics. It carries the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, confirming the textiles are safe and responsibly produced — from yarn to final product. That makes it a win for the planet and for you: it’s gentler on skin, more durable, and keeps its natural softness thanks to a lighter-touch processing. Want to learn more? Read our CZ article about our organic cotton.

3. Buy well-made, fair-trade pieces

Supporting fair-trade brands helps ensure decent working conditions and social responsibility in fashion. TallGuys pieces are sewn in the Czech Republic by local seamstresses. We also work with GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard) supply chains, which respect ethical production and social criteria (no child labour, safe and clean workplaces, reasonable working hours, etc.).

4. Take care of your clothes

Great materials get you halfway there — we use long-staple cotton that’s better spun and doesn’t crawl out of seams, so our tees resist pilling. For even longer life, follow a few basics: wash at max 30 °C, skip the tumble dryer, and turn pieces inside out before washing.

Your choice to support any sustainable brand is a step in the right direction. You help protect the environment and improve working conditions in fashion. Your decisions have real impact — and you can be proud to set an example for a more sustainable future.
